Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois (BCBSIL) is reporting a data breach affecting more than 9,300 individuals. The health insurer discovered the security incident in February 2025, according to a notice posted on their website.
The unauthorized access occurred through the company's online member portal, Blue Access for Members, between November 8, 2024, and March 5, 2025 and exposed account registrations. The exposed data includes:
- Names
- Addresses
- Dates of birth
- Service dates
- Telephone numbers
- Email addresses
- Medical record numbers
- Account numbers
- Medical/dental service information
- Billing information
The nature of the attack and the number of affected individuals is not disclosed.
The company is offering a complimentary one-year membership to Experian's identity protection service. Members with questions about the breach are advised to call the customer service number listed on their ID cards.
