The University of Texas System Office of Employee Benefits was notified by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas of a cybersecurity incident involving Conduent Business Services LLC, a third-party vendor providing printing and mail distribution services for Explanation of Benefits statements.
The breach potentially exposed sensitive personal and protected health information of approximately 310,000 current and former UT Select and UT CARE plan members statewide.
For the approximately 310,000 affected UT Select and UT CARE plan members, the compromised information potentially includes:
- Names and dates of birth
- Home addresses
- Social Security numbers
- Limited medical claims data (including diagnosis or treatment codes)
- Provider names
- Treatment/diagnosis description or code
- Treatment costs
- Date of admission/discharge
- Member identification numbers
- Claim numbers
Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas claims that their systems were not affected by this incident.
Conduent is mailing notification letters directly to all impacted individuals and offers access to complimentary credit monitoring and identity restoration services. The credit monitoring service is offered for two years at no cost to affected individuals. A dedicated Conduent call center has been established to assist impacted members, available Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Eastern Time at 855-291-2608.
