Manassas Park City Schools hit by ransomware attack exposing student and staff info

Manassas Park City Schools (MPCS) in Virginia was hit by a ransomware attack that potentially compromised sensitive personal information of students, staff, and associated individuals. 

The attack occurred on or around June 12, 2025, when hackers gained access to MPCS's network and deployed ransomware to encrypt portions of the network. The breach was detected on June 14. The ransomware attack has been reported to the FBI Cyber Division and the Virginia Fusion Center.

The potentially compromised data includes:

  • Full names or first initial and last name
  • Social Security numbers
  • Passport numbers
  • Financial account information

The number of affected individuals has not been disclosed. 

The school district issued warnings to the community. Affected individuals are advised to review their account statements and monitor their credit reports for suspicious activity.
