Butler County has reported a data breach that occurred in October, detected after federal law enforcement flagged suspicious activity within its computer network. The county responded by collaborating with a digital forensics team to secure its network and ascertain the extent of the breach.
By October 30, the investigation revealed unauthorized access and theft of personally identifiable information on the county's network. Butler County has informed both local and federal law enforcement agencies about the incident and is actively cooperating with federal investigations.
The affected data include:

- driver’s license number,
- state identification number,
- individual taxpayer identification number,
- passport number,
- medical condition or treatment information,
- financial account or payment card information,
- individual health insurance data
Butler County has not disclosed the number of affected individuals or the nature of the attack.
