Pennsylvanians have been informed about a data breach in the Child Care Works system, where unauthorized access occurred on June 26 and 27, 2023, within a system test website.
The Department of Human Services (DHS) detected this breach on June 28 and initiated an investigation conducted by the Office of Administration. To address the issue, DHS has implemented corrective measures, enhancing user credentials for system test websites to prevent future incidents.
The breach affected 11,687 individuals residing in counties including Cameron, Clearfield, Elk, Forest, Jefferson, McKean, and Warren. The DHS has proactively sent letters to these affected individuals, providing them with options to obtain free credit reports as a precautionary step.
