Byline Bank is reporting a data breach after discovering unauthorized access to sensitive information. Byline Bank, headquartered in Chicago, Illinois, operates over 55 branches primarily in the Chicago metropolitan area and is the 4th largest Small Business Association lender in the U.S.
The breach was caused by unauthorized access to a small number of employee email accounts. Upon discovery, Byline Bank secured its email environment and launched an investigation, confirming the unauthorized access to confidential consumer information stored in these email accounts. The investigation was completed on April 22, 2024, and Byline Bank identified the specific compromised information for each affected consumer.
The breach allowed an unauthorized party to access consumers' names and Social Security numbers. The number of affected individuals is not disclosed.
Following the investigation, Byline Bank sent data breach notification letters to affected individuals.
