Clearwater Credit Union reports that they have experienced a data breach through one of its service providers, affecting personal information of thousands of individuals. Clearwater Credit Union, based in Missoula, Montana, serves over 51,000 members and operates as the second-largest credit union in the state.
The breach occurred in May 2023, and is linked to a vulnerability in the MOVEit file transfer software used by the service provider, leading to unauthorized access to sensitive information:
- names,
- Social Security numbers (last four digits),
- bank account numbers,
- email addresses,
- phone numbers.
The direct IT systems of Clearwater Credit Union were not compromised. The incident has affected 25,660 individuals whose information was potentially impacted by the breach.
