On September 8, 2023, Community Trust Bank, Inc (CTBI). reported a data breach involving one of the bank's vendors who used the file-transfer application MOVEit. The breach allowed an unauthorized party to gain access to sensitive information belonging to consumers.

The data breach affecting Community Trust Bank customers was caused by a security vulnerability in the MOVEit file-transfer application, which was used by one of the bank's service providers. An unauthorized party exploited this vulnerability, gaining access to confidential information initially provided to CTBI and subsequently to its service provider. It's important to note that this incident did not involve hackers gaining access to CTBI's IT network.

The vendor notified CTBI of this breach on August 9, 2023. Following this, Community Trust Bank reviewed the compromised files to determine the extent of the data that had been exposed and which consumers had been affected.
