In Cullman County, Alabama, Revenue commissioner has reported that his office was targeted by a ransomware attack during the Christmas weekend.

This cyberattack has resulted in the compromise of certain systems on the server, disrupting the ability to process property tax payments. Despite the breach, the commissioner's office has indicated that there is no evidence suggesting any personal information was compromised.

The office noted that while the server contains public records of historic property, personal details in these documents had been redacted prior to uploading.

To address the situation, a backup server is available, but it is currently undergoing a scan to verify that it has not been affected by the ransomware.

As a result of this incident, the deadline for property tax payments, typically due by the end of the month, has been extended to Monday, January 8, giving taxpayers additional time to make their payments.
