700Credit, an auto industry credit reporting and identity verification provider, reports a data breach that exposed sensitive consumer information belonging to 5.6 million individuals. The breach occurred on or around October 25, 2025. The company was alerted to suspicious activity within its proprietary web-based application, 700Dealer.com.
According to internal documents and communications sent to dealer partners, the unauthorized access compromised consumer data from auto financing applications submitted between May and October 2025. The incident affects more than 18,000 dealerships across the automotive, RV, powersports, and marine industries that rely on 700Credit's services.
The forensic investigation confirmed that 700Credit's internal network is not affected, and all malicious activity was limited to the 700Dealer.com application layer. Dark web monitoring service databreach.io first flagged the breach in mid-November after spotting listings claiming the database contained over 8 million records. 700Credit's managing director Ken Hill later confirmed that 5.6 million records were implicated in the incident.
The exposed data includes:
- Full names
- Home addresses
- Social Security numbers
- Dates of birth
- Employment information (in some cases)
The nature of the attack is not disclosed.
A class action lawsuit was filed on November 24, 2025, in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan. This incident draws comparisons to the devastating 2017 Equifax breach, which exposed Social Security numbers and personal information for over 140 million Americans and resulted in long-lasting consequences for the credit reporting industry, including substantial settlements and regulatory reforms.
The company alerted the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and the FBI, and is notifying consumers and State Attorneys General on behalf of affected dealers. 700Credit is offering impacted consumers 12 to 24 months of free credit monitoring services and has established a dedicated helpline at (866) 273-0345 for inquiries.
