The Idaho Department of Health and Welfare (DHW) reports a data breach incident that occurred on April 18. Their systems experienced a data breach, whereby an unauthorized individual managed to gain access to a payment account belonging to a Medicaid healthcare provider.

Upon discovering the data breach, DHW took immediate action by terminating the unauthorized person's access to their systems.

As a result, sensitive information belonging to 2,501 individuals enrolled in Medicaid may have been exposed. This exposed information includes

  • member identification numbers,
  • names,
  • dates of services,
  • billing codes.

At present, the DHW has not found any evidence to suggest that the compromised information has been misused. Nevertheless, as a precautionary measure, the department has notified individuals who may have been affected by the breach. Furthermore, the affected individuals have been offered identity theft protection and free credit monitoring services for a duration of one year.
