On June 12, 2024, Datamate Bookkeeping & Tax, Inc. reported a data breach after discovering that an unauthorized party had accessed its computer network.
Datamate's investigation revealed that the unauthorized access occurred between September 23, 2023, and December 10, 2023. After detecting suspicious activity on December 10, 2023, Datamate disconnected its systems and initiated an investigation with the assistance of third-party data security specialists.
By January 25, 2024, the review of compromised files was completed, identifying the affected individuals and the specific data exposed. This incident exposed sensitive information of consumers, including:
- First names
- Last names
- Addresses
- Social Security numbers
- Dates of birth
- Bank account numbers
- Routing numbers
The number of affected individuals and the nature of the attack is not disclosed.
Datamate began notifying impacted individuals via data breach notification letters on June 12, 2024.
