Delaware Libraries has fallen victim to a ransomware attack launched by RansomHub gang.
The attack has affected the network services of the state's 35 public library locations, forcing branches to suspend key services such as internet access, printing, and phone lines. Some libraries reported full service outages, including scanning, faxing, and telephony. Delaware Libraries confirmed that digital services, such as eBooks, audiobooks, and other resources, are still available.
The attackers, linked to RansomHub, demanded a ransom of $1 million. The ransomware group claims to have stolen a collection of documents, allegedly leaking financial documents dating back several years. A screenshot from the attackers suggests that over 80,000 files totaling 56 GB were stolen, though the exact nature of the compromised data remains unclear.
No sensitive personal data has been reported stolen, hinting that RansomHub may not have gained deep access to the network.
Annie Norman, state librarian and director of the Delaware Division of Libraries, emphasized that patron information was not affected, and the organization is in the early stages of recovery. RansomHub has not made claims about more personal or sensitive data, indicating that the attack might not have achieved the extent of access that the group usually targets.
