Desert Physicians Management (DPM) has reported a data breach, after discovering that confidential patient information was compromised in a recent cybersecurity incident.

DPM categorizes the breach a s third party breach, although no details are available about the nature of the breach, nor about the number of affected individuals.

DPM does not own the compromised data. Instead they have received the compromised information from healthcare providers, namely patients of:

  • Choice Physicians Network/Choice Medical Group,
  • Choice Healthcare Associates,
  • Horizon Valley Medical Group.

The breach was detected on April 23, 2023, when suspicious activity was identified within DPM's IT environment. In response, DPM secured its network and collaborated with third-party cybersecurity specialists to investigate the incident's nature and extent.

On May 18, 2023, the investigation confirmed that an unauthorized actor had accessed and potentially removed files from DPM's network on April 23, 2023.

The breached information may include

  • names,
  • addresses,
  • dates of birth,
  • health insurance details,
  • clinical information such as diagnoses, treatment information, and medication information.

Desert Physicians Management promptly sent out data breach letters on June 22, 2023, to all individuals whose information was compromised in the recent security incident.
