Hospital falls prey to ransomware attack, hackers demand $70000

KD Hospital, India has reported a ransomware attack which resulted in the hospital being unable to access its online systems, including CCTV footage, patient data, hospital files, and software, according to sources familiar with the incident. Upon detecting the attack, the IT team of KD Hospital disconnected the linked servers and conducted an assessment to determine if the data could be recovered.

The hospital's server data was encrypted, and the attackers demanded a ransom of USD 70,000 in bitcoins to decrypt the files. As of the report servers remain offline.

Nevertheless, the hospital claims that tthey are functioning normally through manual work operations while the servers cwere down. The hospital has implemented a backup system and is recovering through it. Healthcare services were not affected, and investigations are being conducted by the National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU) team and cybercrime police. The audit report, expected in a week, will determine any system vulnerabilities and the necessary rectifications in the IT infrastructure.
