Dollar Tree reports third-party data breach, exposing 2 million individuals
Learn More
The retail chain Dollar Tree with over 23,000 Dollar Tree and Family Dollar stores across the United States and Canada, has reported a cybersecurity incident and data breach.
This breach, affecting nearly 2 million individuals, occurred due to a hack at Zeroed-In Technologies, a third-party service provider for Dollar Tree. The breach took place between August 7 and 8, 2023.
During this cyberattack, unauthorized individuals accessed and potentially stole sensitive personal data of employees from both Dollar Tree and Family Dollar.
The compromised information include
- names,
- birth dates,
- Social Security numbers.
Although the investigation identified which systems were infiltrated, it couldn't pinpoint exactly which files were accessed or extracted. Zeroed-In undertook a thorough examination of the system contents to understand what information was present on the systems during the incident and identify the affected individuals.
The attack is estimated to impact approximately 2 million customers of Dollar Tree. Unfortunately, no details are available about the nature of the attack.
Zeroed-In is reaching out to the impacted individuals, providing them with details on how to enroll in a twelve-month identity protection and credit monitoring service. It's uncertain if other Zeroed-In clients besides Dollar Tree and Family Dollar were affected, this has not been ruled out.
