Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan, a prominent U.S. law firm, disclosed a cybersecurity incident in which one of the firm's electronic discovery vendors fell victim to a ransomware attack in the past year, impacting a limited portion of their clients and matters.

The attack targeted a third-party data center that was used for document management on behalf of certain clients. Fortunately, the breach was contained within a small subset of their client base, and the firm assured that its internal network infrastructure remained unaffected.

The law firm has not revealed the identity of the third-party vendor but reported the breach to California authorities and took necessary steps to notify fewer than 2,000 individuals who were affected by the incident.

The breach occurred between May 13 and 14, 2022, and the vendor in question played a crucial role in collecting and processing e-discovery data for Quinn Emanuel, a firm known for its extensive litigation services with over 1,000 lawyers.

While specific details of the compromised data were not disclosed it is evident that the breach involved sensitive and confidential information due to the nature of the firm's legal services across various industries.
