It was subsequently confirmed that an unauthorized party accessed their systems between January 20, 2021, and January 22, 2021, leading to the compromise of confidential customer information.
After learning about the unauthorized access, Flagstar Bank conducted a thorough review of the compromised files to determine the extent of the leak and identify the impacted consumers.
The breached information varied depending on the individual, but it could include personal data such as names and Social Security numbers. The bank estimated that around 1.4 million people were affected by the recent data security incident, prompting them to send out data breach notification letters to all those affected on July 30, 2023.
