Fortescue Metals reports data breach, Cl0p hacker group suspected

Fortescue, the fourth-largest producer of iron ore globally reported a data breach. Per the report, Fortescue experienced a low-impact cyber incident on May 28, leading to the unauthorized disclosure of a small portion of data from their networks.

The company stated that the compromised information was not of a confidential nature. Fortescue notified the Australian authorities about the incident and performed their internal investigation and remediation procedures.

Fortescue provided no details about the attack, type of data leaked or number of impacted individuals.

The ransomware group Cl0p claims that they have executed a successful breach on Fortescue. The group expressed their belief that the targeted firm displayed negligence towards the security of its customers' data. Specifically, they remarked, "The company doesn't care about its customers; it ignored their security!!!"

The specific amount of data stolen by the Cl0P ransomware group during the attack on Fortescue was not disclosed. It also  remains unclear whether Cl0P targeted Fortescue through the secure managed file transfer software MOVEit Transfer or through another means.
