General Electric investigating potential data breach
Learn More
General Electric (GE) is currently looking into allegations that its development environment was compromised in a cyberattack, with subsequent claims of data exfiltration by a threat actor known as IntelBroker. GE is multinational conglomerate with operations spanning power, renewable energy, and aerospace sectors,
They were mentioned on an online hacking forum when a person signing as IntelBroker offered unauthorized access to GE's internal software systems for $500. IntelBroker has a track record of high-profile cyber infiltrations, including a breach of the Weee! grocery service and the compromise of D.C. Health Link, which affected personnel from the White House and House staffers
After failing to secure a buyer, the threat actor sweetened the offer by advertising the sale of both the access credentials and the data purportedly acquired from GE, including sensitive military information linked to DARPA projects and databases from GE Aviation.
To support the legitimacy of the data offered, the hacker shared screenshots of what they claim is stolen GE data, including a database from GE Aviations that appears to contain information on military projects.
GE has acknowledged the situation, confirmingthat an investigation into the alleged data breach is underway and that measures are being taken to safeguard their system's integrity. So far GE hasn't confirmed that there was a breach.
