Patients of the Guthrie Clinic might be impacted by a data breach at WellTok, Incorporated, a data management firm offering communications services to various healthcare systems, including Guthrie. WellTok reported a security breach where an unauthorized party accessed and transferred patient data from their MOVEit server on May 30th, 2023.
The compromised information could include patient:
- names,
- birthdates,
- addresses,
- email addresses,
- medical provider details,
- medical record numbers,
- health insurance information.
Per the information from Guthrie and Welltok, approximately 144,000 patients of Guthrie were impacted.
Guthrie has assured that no social security, financial, or credit card information was shared with WellTok, thus remaining secure. Following this incident, Guthrie has halted its data-sharing with WellTok and is considering alternative service providers.
WellTok is offering a year of free fraud and identity theft monitoring services through Experian to the affected patients. Despite no ransom demands or public release of the data, Guthrie views this incident seriously and expects WellTok to take appropriate measures.
