Fidelity National Information Services (FIS) reported a data breach in May that impacted around 873,000 bank customers. Fidelity National Information Services (FIS) is a global financial technology company that provides a wide range of solutions and services to the financial industry.

The breach's root cause is attributed to a third-party security incident linked to a vulnerability in MOVEit Transfer software, a file transfer program

The compromised data consisted of names and Social Security numbers, affecting customers of Umpqua Bank, Valley Bank, Capitol Federal and Sound Community Bank.

Most of the banks have addressed its affected customers, stating that the personal information exposed could have included their

  • name,
  • address,
  • Social Security number,
  • loan number for current or past loans,

No deposit account or online banking details included in the compromised records.

Upon detecting the breach, FIS took immediate action by suspending the use of MOVEit Transfer and applying patches to their servers.
