A hacker claims breach of Angel One, a financial services company and the third-largest stock broking firm in India. The hacker alleges data breach affecting nearly 8 million customers and has released personal information on the dark web.
Additionally, the hacker suggested possession of stock holdings and profit and loss statements, though only part of the data has been disclosed thus far.
A private cybersecurity consultant who reviewed the data indicated it appears to originate from an older breach from 2023. The incident in question relates to an event from April 2023, which Angel One reported to authorities at that time. Angel One's spokesperson claims that the breach had no impact on client securities, funds, or credentials, and that all client accounts remain secure.
On April 21, 2023, Angel One disclosed in a stock exchange filing that an unauthorized access incident occurred, potentially exposing client profile data (such as names, emails, and mobile numbers) and client holding data.
Angel One has reiterated that there has been no new data leak incident since the April 2023 breach.
