City officials of Fort Worth, Texas, announced that a hacker group named SiegedSec has leaked internal data from the city's online systems, which primarily includes non-sensitive information.
The comporomised system is suspected to be the View Works system which facilitates maintenance work orders for various departments. No sensitive information of residents, businesses, or employees was compromised.
The nature of the attack is not disclosed, although the statements mention email blocking so it's quite possible that a phishing attack was used.
The hack is believed to be an attempt to embarrass the city, as the hackers explicitly mentioned targeting Texas due to its ban on gender-affirming care.
Fort Worth authorities are collaborating with federal and local law enforcement to investigate the incident, and all users have been required to reset their passwords as a precautionary measure.
No ransom demand has been made by SiegedSec.
