The Housing Authority of the County of San Bernardino (HACSB) in California recently notified about 19,000 individuals that their personal information was potentially compromised in a cyberattack that occurred in June 2023.

In the cyberattack, unauthorized individuals gained access to sensitive information, specifically names and Social Security numbers of the affected individuals. This breach was executed through a compromised email account of an HACSB employee. Upon discovering the breach, HACSB officials immediately reset the password for the affected email account to mitigate further unauthorized access.

HACSB confirmed that a limited amount of information may have been accessed by an unauthorized third-party due to the incident. There are no details whether HACSB will offer any credit monitoring or other protection to the affected individuals.
