Hunters International, a ransomware gang, has reportedly breached the London branch of the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC), allegedly stealing over 5.2 million files amounting to 6.6 terabytes (TB) of data. ICBC is the world's largest bank by total assets, with $6.3 trillion in assets and an annual revenue of $113 billion as of mid-2024.

The group has set a deadline of September 13 for the bank to meet their ransom demands, threatening to release the data if payment is not made

The data exfiltrated by the attackers reportedly includes highly sensitive information including:

  • source code,
  • private keys,
  • credentials,
  • configuration details for ICBC’s cloud infrastructure,
  • financial data pertaining to the bank's operations and customers.

ICBC has not confirmed or denied the breach. The bank has not issued any public statements or responses to inquiries from media outlets. No details are disclosed about the attack or any impacted individuals.

If the claims of Hunters International are valid, this breach could result in significant repercussions for ICBC’s customers, potentially exposing sensitive financial data and damaging the bank’s reputation.
