The Illinois Department of Human Services (IDHS) has disclosed a significant data breach that occurred on April 25 through a phishing campaign targeting employee accounts.
IDHS, in collaboration with the Illinois Department of Innovation and Technology, conducted a forensic analysis and manual review of compromised files to determine the breach's extent.
Over 1.1 million people whose public assistance account information was compromised woth 4,704 individuals whose Social Security numbers were exposed. Exposed data includes:
- Social Security numbers (for 4,704 individuals)
- Names
- Public assistance account numbers
- Addresses
- Birth dates
- Illinois State Board of Education Student Information System ID numbers
- Cellphone numbers
The agency has sent written notifications to individuals whose Social Security numbers were exposed and whose current addresses were available, offering credit monitoring services.
