Indonesia’s tax agency is currently investigating a potential data breach that may have exposed the taxpayer identification numbers (TINs) of millions of citizens, including high-profile figures such as President Joko Widodo, his ministers, and his two sons.
This screenshot allegedly contained samples of national identity and TINs for approximately six million Indonesians, including government officials.
While the tax agency confirmed they are looking into the "circulating information of a data breach," further details have not been provided at this time. Media have not yet independently verified the authenticity of the data in question.
President Widodo acknowledged the issue, noting that similar incidents occur in other countries, and he called for swift action from ministries to address the situation. Aprianto warned that the exposure of taxpayer data could lead to targeted attacks by scam operations, potentially resulting in financial or non-financial losses, as well as revealing sensitive details about people's earnings and transactions.
No official information about the total number of affected individuals has been disclosed, nor have details about the cause of the breach or potential financial losses.
