ION Trading UK, a financial data firm reports being hit by a ransomware attack that has significantly disrupted derivatives trading for brokers relying on its services.
According to ION Group - the parent company of ION Trading, the ransomware attack began on Tuesday 15th of October 2024. ION Group has taken the affected servers offline and is working to restore services. The incident has left many brokers unable to process derivatives trades, causing potential delays and complications in the financial markets.
No details are disclosed about any exfiltrated or encrypted data or the number of affected individuals.
According to sources cited by Reuters, the attack could take days to resolve, with all affected servers taken offline and recovery efforts currently underway.
Both the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) and the Prudential Regulation Authority (PRA) in the U.K. are actively monitoring the situation and working with affected firms to manage the fallout.
