Update - as of 14th of Februrary 2024, LY Corporation is reporting additional 79,110 individuals impacted by the breach, bringing the total number of impacted individuals to 519,000.
The breach, which occurred in early October, involved unauthorized access due to malware on a computer owned by an employee of a subcontractor used by the LY Corp's South Korea-based affiliate, Naver Cloud Corp.
The affected data included over 300,000 records from Line app users, along with approximately 86,000 items of business partner data and over 51,000 employee records. The leaked data comprised user information such as
- service usage history,
- age groups,
- genders,
- email addresses,
- names,
- internal identifiers.
Sensitive information like bank accounts, credit card details, and chat messages were not compromised.
LY Corp has taken steps to mitigate the breach, such as blocking external access and contacting those potentially impacted. Investigations are ongoing, and users have been advised to take precautions to secure their data. There have been no reports of secondary damage from the breach so far.
