Japanese Sanrio Entertainment reports Puroland theme park hit by ransomware

Sanrio Entertainment, a subsidiary of the group behind popular characters like Hello Kitty, My Melody, and Kuromi, is reporting a ransomware attack affecting their Puroland theme park operations in Tama, Tokyo.
The incident was discovered during an investigation of what initially appeared to be a site outage. The breach has potentially exposed personal information of up to two million individuals, including Puroland Club members, yearly passport holders, employees, and clients.
As a direct result of the attack, the Puroland Club Passport website remains temporarily unavailable, with the Japanese version of puroland.jp redirecting visitors to a temporary page citing "network trouble." Exposed data types include:
- Names
- Addresses
- Employee information
- Client information
The nature of the attach is not disclosed.
Sanrio Entertainment has confirmed that the attack is contained to their systems and does not affect the parent company. The company has issued an apology and committed to strengthening their security measures.
