JAS Worldwide freight forwarder reports ransomware attack and tech distractions
Learn More
JAS Worldwide, an Atlanta-based global freight forwarder, confirmed that it was targeted by a ransomware attack, leading to technical disruptions that impacted its ability to operate and service customers.
JAS Worldwide, founded in Milan in 1978 and now headquartered in Atlanta, operates in over 100 countries.
The company secured its systems and began an investigation with external cybersecurity experts. While JAS Worldwide has not disclosed the extent of the disruption or the number of customers affected, it assured that its email system and website remain secure - which is a weird statement since it clearly avoids mentioning the key logistics systems of the company.
No ransomware group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack. It could be due to ongoing negotiations, the potential prevention of data exfiltration, or other factors.
The company is continuing its investigation and has committed to providing updates on its progress.
Update - As of 2nd of September 2024, a cyber-crime source requesting to remain anonymous suggested that hackers have not named the forwarder in an extortion request possibly because the ransom was paid. The breach is suspected to expose over 400 leaked data records, many from 'admin' accounts, potentially giving hackers access to sensitive systems.
