The Department of Justice and Constitutional Development (DJ&CD) of South Africa is reporting a cybersecurity incident affecting child maintenance payments.

The department has temporarily suspended its electronic payment system for third-party funds, including child maintenance, following attempts to compromise the system. An investigation is currently underway to determine the extent of the potential breaches.

The DJ&CD has advised child maintenance beneficiaries to visit their nearest court with original identity documents to receive manual payments until the electronic system is restored.

No details are disclosed about any data or systems breached during the incident.

The department has emphasized its commitment to strengthening its systems to prevent future breaches and apologized for any inconvenience caused.

Recently, other South Africa government bodies, such as the International Trade Administration Commission and the Companies and Intellectual Property Commission, have also reported cyber incidents. The Government Employees Pension Fund has likewise been targeted.
