Liberty First Credit Union is reporting a data breach initially discovered on September 17, 2024.
After detecting suspicious activity within their IT Network, LFCU launched an investigation with the assistance of third-party cybersecurity experts. The investigation revealed that an unauthorized third party had gained access to a portion of LFCU's internal network. On September 24, 2024, LFCU confirmed that the unauthorized party had successfully acquired files containing personal information of their members.
The compromised personal information may include:
- Names
- Dates of birth
- Social Security numbers
The exact number of affected individuals are not disclosed, only described only as "thousands". The nature of the attack is also not disclosed.
The credit union claims that the breach did not compromise their banking systems, online banking platforms, or payment processing systems.
