eFile.com, a prominent U.S. online tax-filing platform, is reportedly facing another ransomware attack.

LockBit ransomware gang added eFile to their extortion site earlier this week, threatening to release sensitive files allegedly stolen during the breach. However, eFile.com has not yet confirmed or denied the attack.

This incident follows a previous malware issue that eFile.com experienced in 2023, when the platform served malicious JavaScript that directed users to download malware, compromising sensitive personal information like Social Security numbers, addresses, and income data.

LockBit's attack comes just before the October tax-filing extension deadline, which could exacerbate the potential impact, as many users are likely to be utilizing the platform during this period.

There are doubts about the authenticity of LockBit’s claims, as no documents have been leaked yet, and eFile.com’s official website continues to operate normally. The ransomware group has given a 14-day deadline before they allegedly release the compromised data.
