Lycoming County government hit by ransomware attack

Lycoming County, Pennsylvania is reporting a ransomware attack detected on August 12, 2025.
The attack appears to have been a financially motivated ransomware operation. On August 18, 2025, as part of the investigation, county officials determined that the attackers had stolen data from the network containing personally identifiable information. Federal law enforcement was notified of the incident.
The exposed data includes:
- Driver's license numbers
- Personally identifiable information related to law enforcement matters
- Data maintained by the County Department of Public Safety
The number of affected individuals has not been disclosed.
The county is conducting a review of the affected data to identify all potentially impacted individuals. Written notifications will be provided to affected individuals along with complimentary credit monitoring services where appropriate.
As a precautionary measure, potentially affected individuals are encouraged to closely monitor their financial accounts and credit reports for any inaccurate information or unusual activity.
Update - as of 17th of November 2025, The county solicitor claims that no data held by the Lycoming County Department of Public Safety appears to have been compromised by the breach.
