Victoria Eye Center/Victoria Surgery Center/Victoria Vision Center (VEC) has reported a data breach exposing personal health information. Victoria Eye Center provides eye care services, including LASIK, cataract surgery, diabetic eye care, and general ophthalmology services. The main clinic is located in Victoria, Texas.
On March 21, 2024, VEC discovered that certain computer systems were inaccessible due to malicious file encryption. VEC initiated an investigation with the help of third-party computer forensic specialists to determine the scope and nature of the incident and recover systems.
The investigation revealed that an unknown actor had accessed a limited number of systems and certain files within those systems. Personal health information may have been accessed during the incident, although VEC has not received any reports of fraudulent misuse of the potentially impacted information.
VEC has not disclosed the nature of exposed information or number of affected individuals.
Update - as of 21st of May 2024, VEC is reporting that over 80,000 individuals were impacted by the breach.
