Mass General Brigham is reporting a data breach incident that may have compromised personal information of some patients. An internal investigation conducted in May revealed that a few employees had allowed an unauthorized person to access sensitive data.
The breach affected patients under the Mass General Brigham Health Plan (MGBHP) from July 21, 2023, to April 2, 2024. Additionally, patients at Mass General Brigham hospital had their information compromised between February 26, 2024, and April 4, 2024.
The employees involved in the incident were immediately terminated.
Exposed data includes:
- Names,
- Addresses,
- Social Security numbers,
- Dates of birth,
- Diagnoses,
- Credit card numbers.
The number of affected individuals is not disclosed.
Mass General Brigham is notifying affected individuals and advising them to review the notification letters for instructions on how to monitor and protect their information.
