Microf, LLC, a financial services company specializing in lease-to-own financing solutions for HVAC and water heater systems, is reporting a a data breach affecting consumers across multiple states.
The incident was caused by a ransomware attack claimed by the Qilin gang. The threat actors published sample screenshots as evidence of successful breach.
The exposed consumer information includes:
- Names
- Social Security numbers
The number of affected individuals is not disclosed.
Microf is offering 24 months of complimentary credit monitoring and identity theft protection services to all impacted consumers. Affected individuals must enroll in these services within 90 days of receiving their notification letter.
Microf has established a dedicated call center to assist affected individuals and has provided detailed guidance on protective measures, including instructions for placing fraud alerts or credit freezes with the three major credit bureaus.
