The Middlesex Sheriff’s Office (MSO) in Massachusetts reports a data breach that exposed private medical records. The breach affected inmates and anyone else who received medical care at MSO facilities during that year.
Attackers broke into the systems in January 2025 and the MSO shut down several internet systems to stop the attackers. A year-long investigation confirmed that the attackers viewed sensitive files containing personal and health data.
The compromised data includes:
- Full names
- Home addresses
- Dates of birth
- Medical diagnoses
The nature of the attack and the number of affected individuals is not disclosed.
The MSO started notifying victims in January 2026. They are advising the affected individuals to check their bank statements and credit reports for indicators fraud. The office claims they have found no evidence that anyone has misused the stolen data yet.
