Mountrail County Medical Center reports data breach caused by third party DMS Health Tech

Mountrail County Medical Center, based in Stanley North Dakota has reported a data breach, revealing that patient information was compromised between March 27 and April 24.
The breach came to light when Fargo-based DMS Health Technologies, which provides imaging services such as MRIs and ultrasounds to the medical center, reported a cybersecurity incident. DMS publicly reported the breach on June 16 after its discovery on April 23, as stated on its website.
Subsequently, a review of the breach was conducted with the assistance of third-party forensic specialists, identifying the individuals potentially impacted by the breach. The affected individuals will be notified through letters.
The exposed patient data is limited to their:
- names,
- dates of birth,
- physician names,
- exam types.
The number of affected individuals is not disclosed.
To address the breach, DMS intends to enhance its "administrative and technical safeguards". Both federal law enforcement and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services were promptly informed of the breach.
