Renault UK is reporting a data breach affecting customers caused  by a cyberattack on one of its third-party data processing service providers. The attackers successfully infiltrated an external contractor's systems that held customer information for both Renault and its sister brand Dacia.

The automaker claims that its own internal systems were not compromised. The exposed data includes:

  • Gender
  • First name and surname
  • Email address
  • Phone number
  • Postal address
  • Vehicle registration number
  • Vehicle Identification Number (VIN)

The third party is not named, and the number of affected individuals is not disclosed.

Renault UK is cooperating with the affected third-party provider and has notified relevant authorities.

Renault has warned customers to be careful of potential phishing attempts and social engineering attacks. The automaker stressed that it will never request passwords via email or telephone, and customers should be cautious of any unsolicited messages claiming to be from Renault.
