Learn More

Optimum Health Solutions, an Australian provider of preventive healthcare services, has fallen victim to a ransomware group that stole and subsequently shared employee and patient data on the darknet.

The ransomware group responsible, known as Rhysida, published a substantial amount of the pilfered data on their leak site, totaling 186 gigabytes and consisting of over 108,000 files attributed to both Optimum Health Solutions' employees and patients.

This exposed a wide array of sensitive information, including

  • employee passport details,
  • patients' medical records
  • National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) agreements
  • payment information,
  • email communications
  • various credentials.

No details were provided about the attack nor the number of affected individuals.

In the second quarter of 2023, Australia ranked sixth globally for data breaches, with nearly 2 million accounts compromised during this period. This surge has raised concerns about the adequacy of current data protection measures.
