The International Chapter of the P.E.O. Sisterhood, a non-profit organization based in Des Moines, Iowa, recently experienced a data breach resulting from a ransomware attack.
The incident, which occurred on April 14, 2023, led to unauthorized access to the organization's computer system and the exposure of confidential consumer information.
Through a third-party forensic investigation, it was confirmed that cybercriminals gained access to inadequately secured networks containing the personal data of approximately 294,200 individuals
The compromised data includes
- names,
- dates of birth,
- Social Security numbers,
- home addresses,
- phone numbers,
- financial account numbers,
- email addresses.
In response to the breach, the P.E.O. Sisterhood reported the incident to the FBI, engaged cybersecurity experts for investigation, and sent out data breach notification letters to all affected individuals.
