Panasonic Avionics reports data breach one year after cyberattack

Panasonic Avionics Corporation, an in-flight communications and entertainment systems manufacturer, reports that in December 2022 they were hit by a cybersecurity incident. The breach was first detected on December 30, 2022, but it's believed to have occurred around December 14, 2022. The breach specifically targeted a subset of devices within Panasonic's corporate network, leading to unauthorized access to sensitive information.
The information compromised in this breach encompassed a range of personal and health data:
- names,
- email addresses,
- mailing addresses,
- phone numbers,
- dates of birth,
- sensitive medical and health insurance information
- financial account numbers,
- details pertaining to company employment status,
- government identifiers, including Social Security numbers.
Panasonic Avionics Corporation haven't disclosed the number of affected individuals but they claim that the impact of the incident was confined to a limited amount of employee and business customer data.
They also claim to not yet have found any evidence to suggest that the exposed information has been misused since the time of the attack.
In response to the breach and as a precautionary measure to support those affected, Panasonic is providing 24 months of complimentary identity and credit monitoring services, offered through Kroll. These services are intended to help the impacted individuals monitor their records for any signs of suspicious or unauthorized activities.
The company reassured that there was no evidence suggesting any impact on its in-flight entertainment systems, connectivity solutions, digital services, or maintenance operating systems. They also confirmed that the operations of Panasonic Avionics Corporation were not adversely affected in any manner.
