PCB manufacturer Unimicron hit by ransomware attack claimed by Sarcoma gang

On January 30, 2025, Unimicron, one of the world's largest PCB (Printed Circuit Board) manufacturers, experienced a ransomware attack affecting its Chinese subsidiary, Unimicron Technology (Shenzhen) Corp.

Unimicron is a significant player in the technology manufacturing sector, producing rigid and flexible PCBs, high-density interconnection (HDI) boards and integrated circuit (IC) carriers Their products are widely used in LCD monitors, computers, peripherals, and smartphones, with manufacturing facilities and service centers across Taiwan, China, Germany, and Japan.

The company has engaged an external cyber forensic team for incident analysis and implementation of defense measures. While Unimicron maintains that the impact is limited, they have not disclosed any details of exposed data or impacted individuals.

The attack was claimed by the Sarcoma ransomware group, which states to have exfiltrated 377 GB of SQL files and various company documents. The gang has  published alleged sample files and threatened to leak all stolen data within a week if ransom demands are not met.

The incident was publicly disclosed through a bulletin on the Taiwan Stock Exchange (TWSE) portal on February 1, 2025.
