Pearland Independent School District Exposes Over 55k Individuals in Data Breach

Pearland Independent School District (Pearland ISD) reported a data breach in which an unauthorized party had gained access to confidential information stored on the district's computer system.

Unusual activity was detected within Pearland ISD's computer network on November 8, 2022. As a response, the district secured its system and initiated an investigation in collaboration with independent cybersecurity experts.

On April 18, 2023, the investigation confirmed unauthorized access and acquisition of certain information from Pearland ISD's IT network by an unauthorized party. It was later determined that some of the compromised files contained confidential information related to various individuals associated with the district. The review of the files was completed on May 18, 2023. The breached information may vary depending on the individual but may include names, dates of birth, addresses, and Social Security numbers of approximately 55,000 individuals.

Subsequently, on June 6, 2023, Pearland School District initiated the process of notifying all individuals whose information was compromised in the recent data security incident by sending out data breach letters.
