Des Moines Public Schools (DMPS) in Iowa has revealed that approximately 6,700 individuals may have had their personal information exposed in a cyberattack that occurred in January.
The attack prompted the district to temporarily shut down internet and network services and launch an investigation with forensic specialists. Classes were canceled for two days as a result of the breach.
No details are available as to the types of data exposed in the breacn nor the nature of the cyberattack.
Despite the breach, DMPS claims there is no evidence of financial fraud or identity theft. Those affected by the data breach will receive a letter from the district this week noting the type of data that may have been exposed.
DPMS is now offering complimentary credit monitoring services to the affected individuals, although there is no evidence of financial fraud or identity theft resulting from the breach.
