Pharmaceutical Giant Eisai Hit by Ransomware

Learn More

Pharmaceutical company Eisai Co. announced that it experienced a ransomware attack, resulting in the encryption of data on several of its servers.

According to Eisai there have been no known leaks of confidential material. None of the major ransomware groups have taken responsibility for the cyberattack on their extortion sites yet, so the perpetrators are unknown.

To prevent further damage, Eisai disconnected certain internal systems and is collaborating with experts and law enforcement to restore the affected systems. The company has not disclosed whether any monetary demands were made for the release of the compromised data.

This cyber attack has lead to an internal investigation of potential data leaks and leaks of intellectual property, pharmaceutical research data and confidential processes.

In December 2021, Eisai experienced another cyberattack perpetrated by a ransomware group called 'AtomSilo,' which is no longer operational. While AtomSilo's extortion portal is no longer accessible, the leaked data from the group included various MDF and LDF database dumps that were reportedly stolen from Eisai's network.
