Rapattoni systems brought down by Ransomware
Learn More
Rapattoni, a software company that provides technology solutions for the real estate industry is experiencing a ransomware attack from Wednesday 9th of August, causing a significant disruption.
This attack affected the servers hosting multiple listing services (MLS) with a substantial membership base, including associations such as the Northwest Indiana Realtors Association, San Francisco Association of Realtors, BAREIS MLS, and CincyMLS.
The attack has severely impacted the functionality of the systems. Users are unable to perform actions like adding or removing listings, updating statuses, and other related tasks. The attack has left agents unable to access their clients' property information, hindering their ability to effectively serve their clients.
Rapattoni's MLS technical support line has acknowledged the issue through a recorded message. Additionally, the company's website has become inaccessible due to the attack. A message to customers reveals that federal authorities are investigating the attack, and Rapattoni's insurance company is in negotiations with the ransomware perpetrators.
Rapattoni has taken measures to address the situation by bringing in new servers to recreate the MLS environment. Although historical data is safe due to backups, individual MLS system configurations were not backed up. Recreating these configurations may take time, contingent upon Rapattoni's negotiations with the attackers.
Efforts to resolve the issue are underway, as confirmed by updates posted on the San Francisco Association of Realtors' website. However, challenges persist, and certain services, such as new listing additions and edits, remain unavailable to members.
Update - Rapattoni has managed to restore most of it's systems and services after 9 days of recovery.
